Seven years ago, I lost all my hair to Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune disease. As a young girl, I never imagined this would be my future. Not a single day has gone by that hasn't been difficult while trying to conform to a beauty standard I no longer fit into. I struggle with my self-esteem, my romantic and personal relationships, my identity, and enduring social stigma. It's important to highlight the challenges of alopecia so that girls who look like me don't feel alone. Being a bald woman is a daily struggle, and the adversity doesn't need to be hidden.
