Part 2: After the swelling went down, Brody was still not walking on his leg. His vet had concerns and referred us to an orthopedic specialist. We saw the Ortho specialist on June 9th, and he said we needed to do exploratory surgery to see if there were any ligament or tendon tears that would not show up on an x-ray. I agreed to the surgery, and Brody had it done on June 26th. Brody was in surgery for 2.5 hours, but unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done. The infection that he had ate away huge pieces of cartilage, so there was nothing to reattach or repair. My sweetest boy only has one option left, and that is getting his leg amputated. He was supposed to have it done yesterday, but the incision from the surgery last week is now infected. He has been on antibiotics for over a month at this point and we still can't knock out this infection. His vet sent a culture of the infection to a lab yesterday, and we are hoping to find out exactly what kind of antibiotics Brody needs to kick this infection. Our journey isn't over yet, but I am hopeful that it will be soon. ♡

Part 1 of the journey we have been on with our 7 month old Great Dane puppy, Brody. He stopped using his back right leg on May 25th, and was diagnosed with #HOD (Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy). During the first week, he had deadly high fevers (107.7 being the highest), swelling that caused pitting edema, and we spent every evening at our local Urgent care vet. On June 5th, his leg abscessed after being on antibiotics for 7 days. Thankfully, this alleviated all of his swelling and we were hopeful he would start walking again.
