Today, I typed “The End” on a book that still has me in its clutches. This year hasn’t been my most productive since I’ve only published one book. But today, I finished THE book. I don’t even know how to describe what I’m feeling right now. How do I put into words the way this book finished me instead of the other way around? Completing the first draft is just the beginning and one small step in a journey of thousands still to come. But for now, I’m pausing to celebrate the end of one of my favorite books I’ve ever written. I know I say this often, but this book… this book is THE book. It’s the story I’ve been craving to write for years. It’s the one that consumed me—body, mind, and soul. It’s the book that kept me up at night, too restless to sleep because I couldn’t stop thinking about it. The one I woke up for, giddy to dive back into Gareth and Kayden and give them my hands so they can type their story. They’re raw, unfiltered and dark. They made me giggle, scream, and feel everything. Writing it was a wild, beautiful, chaotic ride I didn’t want to leave, so when I finally typed those last words, I just stared into space and cried. I don’t cry when I finish books, but this time I did. Not because the ending is sad—it’s not—but because I didn’t want to say goodbye. Kayden and Gareth feel like they’ve etched themselves under my skin, and now I don’t know what to do with myself (JK I’ll be re-reading again and again until release 😂). One year ago, I decided to publish my first MM book on my birthday after years of talking myself out of writing one. While I’d written a few MM couples throughout my books, I’d never fully committed to an entirely MM story before. So when I first planned to include this book in the Legacy of Gods series, I was apprehensive and even tried to shove myself back into the MF box I’d built for myself. But I couldn’t ignore how Niko and Bran kept talking to me, and I decided to write their book, even if it was just a little passion project for myself. Little did I know this story would end up consuming many of you as well. I’m blown away by the love Niko and Bran have received—and continue to receive—a whole year after GOF was published. I’m grateful to Niko and Bran for changing my perspective, altering my brain chemistry, and opening the door to adding more MM stories to the Rinaverse. Today, I’m sitting down to write Kiss the Villain, another MM romance featuring Niko’s cousin Gareth and his professor. This one is just as intense as GOF but darker in tone, and once again, I’m finding myself consumed, captivated, and maybe even a little disturbed by their chemistry. And next year, I’m planning another MM story, Tempting Venom, between two unhinged hockey rivals that already has me giddy with excitement. Every one of these, and any upcoming MM stories, owes a debt of gratitude to Niko and Bran for paving the way for this new facet of the ever-expanding #Rinaverse. Happy anniversary to my babies.
