I have lived in different areas of Los Angeles from South Central to the valley, from East Los to the heart of LA for the last decade, and If im being honest I wouldnt have made it without immigrants. I was housed and fed by strangers, who treated me like their own, and taught how to survive in a city bigger than me. there is only one race and its the human race. My fellow immigrants, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, elders always looked out for me whether it was car repairs, a new job, small connections or sharing opportunities with me. Many of these small experiences were major building blocks that made a big impact on my life and who i am today. You never go without in the latino community because it is not in their culture they look out for each other, regardless of your culture or background . Many people have shared their experiences with me and purpose for coming here, the dangers and obstacles they faced just for a better future or chance to live a life of freedom. I have even helped some study for their citizenship and assisted in their legal process, some fail some succeed and face financial burdens but keep trying and work hard in the midst of the process. I have never met one immigrant who did not work harder than the avergae american, wake up early, paid their dues. Most worked 14-16 hrs under the states minimum wage and were content with just being in a safe place to call home. They taught me their culture, their language. their way of life, their history, they healed me, they held me and nourished me when i needed it most. They helped me flourish into who i am today. I wouldve never had a chance if it werent for their support. I have worked with people who shared their dream of freedom and being a citizen, it was their only goal but the complications that come with it are often overlooked. It is common for people to judge by lack of knowledge and experience, forgive them for what they do not understand. We are not fighting to “prove a point” we are protecting our rights, protecting families, and protecting a culture.. If you have go fund me links for immigrant families in need of financial support please leave below or you can donate to the link in my bio. Be safe be vigilant and stay strong. Dios de bendiga !!!
