A heartwarming rescue story 🤍 It all began with a tip about a dog in distress, unsure if she had puppies. After a quick search, they found her—carefully protecting her little ones in a crawl space under a house. With help from the homeowners, they spent hours getting the 8 puppies to safety, but mom was still hiding deep inside. The next morning, they returned with food and a puppy gate, and thanks to the sound of her babies crying, mom quickly joined them. Just when they thought the reunion was complete, they got word there was one more puppy left behind. Rushing back, they brought the last little one home and reunited the whole family. Meet Runa. When she came to us, she was nothing more than skin and bones, emaciated and suffering. She carried a 6-pound mass in her stomach, and we didn’t know if she’d survive long enough to even get the help she needed. Big Dog Ranch Rescue has been overwhelmed by the increasing number of stray dogs in need of rescue, and it’s heartbreaking to think that not every dog will be as lucky as Pammy. Meet Shay, a devoted mom at the Ranch and a Labrador Retriever Mix who came to us all the way from South Carolina, just days after giving birth to 9 adorable puppies. Over the weekend, we stabilized Batty at Big Dog Ranch, keeping him on oxygen while we coordinated with surgeons to determine the best course of action. Batty was so critically injured his intestines were into his chest cavity, his spine was fractured and his pelvis was broken - Batty was struggling to breathe. His first surgery was at MedVet Jupiter, where they worked to get everything back in place, followed by spinal repair by Dr. Wong at Southeast Vet in Miami. After five days of care, Batty was brought back to BDRR for continued rehab, love, and care from our dedicated staff and volunteers. While his case was costly, it’s been more than worth it. His case came in at an incredibly high cost of almost $21,000. Though we’re unsure if he’ll regain use of his rear legs, we’re hopeful with physical therapy and lots of TLC that Batty will walk again. None of this would be possible without Ella’s Miracle Fund.
