Mark Merlino “grandfather” to the furry fandom passed away and it’s hard not to bring it to this app. So many young people don’t understand the start of the furry fandom or how it began. But Mark was at the head! Mark (more commonly known as Sy Sable) is one of the forefathers of the fandom, curating the community and the very first furry convention. His art style is so iconic and unique and made up so many of the first fandom events posters. He truly was a beacon of love and support for this fandom and every soul in it. If you’d like to hear more about him Ash Coyote has an excellent documentary called “The Fandom” and Mark is featured heavily in it 💕 Please take a moment to remember Mark, and all he’s done for the fandom as a whole (not just in the 80’s and 90’s) It is going to be a hard one to get over and grow with this massive loss, but it’s important to remember the path he paved for us. The path of acceptance, and weirdness, and love. The path that didn’t include senseless callouts and drama, or being scared to go to a con incase someone you had a falling out with was there.
