These puppys belong to a friend of mine Michaela. breeds Australian Shepherds. Unfortunately, she is now dependent on help herself. Her current puppies were born on August 05, 2023 and have been fighting for their lives since they were 6 weeks old. One little mouse, out of eight puppies, unfortunately already died. Her autopsy revealed that she was suffering from HCC. HCC, short for hepatitis contagiosa canis, is an inflammation of the liver in dogs caused by a virus. Thanks to vaccination measures, it now occurs only rarely. And this brings us to the problem. This virus broke out in the puppies at the age of 6 weeks, i.e. due to the fever spikes of up to 41°C in some cases, the puppies could not be vaccinated until now. They have now been fighting this disease for six weeks. There are days when they are fever-free. But there are also days when they have a fever. They don't eat anything, no matter what you offer them. They simply have no appetite for food. In between they are fit, romp and play, just normal for their age. Then they just lie there apathetically again. They are all being treated by a vet and have been hospitalized several times. There they had to be kept on a drip for a few days. As there is hardly any experience with this disease in Germany, there is really nothing we can do except hope and wait. I am writing to you because Michaela does not want to ask for donations, but she urgently needs help to get through the current situation. As HCC cannot be treated, only symptoms can be alleviated, the veterinary costs are correspondingly high. She also has to commute several times a day to the vet 30 km away. As she spends 24 hours a day with the puppies, she is of course physically exhausted, but perhaps we can alleviate her financial worries. As this disease could affect anyone, even a small contribution helps.
