A Love Letter 💚 I wouldn’t choose to take this path with anyone else. You remind me everyday why we do this, not for ourselves but for every dancer who wants a place to feel free. Your morals, your values, and your strength is what truly drives the Rolerotation Movement forward. 🌍 We still have battles ahead and places we need to show up and changes we must keep fighting for. “Protect traditional values”… 🤦‍♂️ This comes from the current topic of some organisers not allowing women to lead and men to follow in social dance competitions. This is the main argument: “we want to protect traditional values”. So, since we are clearly back to the mentality from 1776, and these people like to pick and choose which traditions to “protect” - Our questions are: -Should we also forbid women to wear trousers? #obsoletetraditions -Should we send women back to “the kitchen”? #obsoletetraditions -Should we only allow men in the army? #obsoletetraditions -Should we forbid women to study or work? #obsoletetraditions -Should we not pay women teachers for their work? #obsoletetraditions -Should we force men to wear heels since it was designed firstly for them #obsoletetraditions -Should we condem women for being intelligent? “Witches” #obsoletetraditions What other “gender traditional values” can you remember that we “should protect”? RESPECT AND REPRESENTATION 💚 This was an intensive weekend but definitely a pivotal one. In the Festival of Nations we @felipeytiago_official have been: -Judging one of the biggest competitions of social dance in the world as a male-follower. This included dancing with the leaders competitors in the final of this World Dance Championship. -Representing RoleRotation as a gender equality and anti-discrimination Social Movement in the dancing scene. -Being part of the round table with Eva from Owen y Eva, where luckily we got to give our input on the topic of se*ual and mental harrassment and the power dynamics existing in the dancing scene and that we have to be aware and definitely talk about it more. -Given the chance to finally show the social dance world that both roles dancers are here and they are helping solve a lot of the issues that exist in our community. We will not take any more bull*. We are helping, we are providing safe spaces, we are giving a space to people who didn’t have it before, so the only thing we demand is respect and to stop the discrimination. -Had a packed styling class for EVERYONE. It was Not divided by genders and it was supported by many ofifcial teachers of the festival. Thank you. -3 Rolerotation classes as the amazing Fiorella y Linda were also representing different types of professional couples. -Performing our emotional show which is a love letter for both our community (first song) and our haters (second song). -Being there since the begining, opening this festival with the very first class of the entire festival. -Closing all 4 socials so we could dance and meet and dance with as many beautiful dancers as we possibly could. We also want to thank @bachatagenevafestival for organising the incredible Festival of Nations and having us as headliners. And for all of you, thank you everyone.
