I noticed that Elon Musk was amplifying an account promoting “race science” to his millions of followers on X. Adherents to this backward ideology believe that “race” is a biological fact, and not a social construct. As such, they insist that Black people are biologically more violent and biologically less intelligent than white people. Fast forward to today and these ideas have found their way into one of Trump’s latest executive orders. So last year I decided to talk to some of the guys combating these narratives online.

He surpassed the late Senator Strom Thurmond and in the process, performed a kind of historical alchemy: claiming a record that was once defined by bigotry, and remaking it in the image of inclusion.
