A mother whose four young boys died in a fire after she left them home alone to go to Sainsbury’s has been jailed for 10 years. Deveca Rose had left her two sets of twins in the locked terraced house when the fatal blaze broke out on the evening of the 16th December 2021. The 30-year-old, who suffered from mental health problems, was found guilty of four counts of manslaughter following trial. Wigan Council has voted for a national inquiry into the grooming gangs scandal, breaking with the Labour government’s position. Marius Ciolac entered the carpark at Ascot Drive Police station in Derby, carrying the blade and a cat inside of a pet carrier rucksack. Ignoring police instructions to drop the weapon, the 35-year-old builder from Romania began smashing windows and police cars. Police witnesses told a jury he licked the knife and looked possessed. Tasers, a stun grenade and baton round all failed to stop the knifeman before armed officers shot him in the abdomen. He died in hospital.
