And the day our cleaning efforts quadruple 😂. Did you know that mom dogs lick their puppies to stimulate them to go potty and then EAT it for the first four weeks or so of their lives? A lot of people are really taken aback by this little tidbit 😂. Once the puppies start solid food, mama dogs refuse to keep eating their 💩, and that’s when we step in. This is part of the reason we start potty training three weeks old, so that by the time puppies begin weaning, they already know where they are supposed to potty and it makes for a much quicker and more sanitary cleanup. We absolutely do not recommend putting litters in wood chips to minimize cleanup. Puppies get very confused about where they are supposed to go to the bathroom and end up going to the bathroom EVERYWHERE. Then they go home and don’t understand that they can’t go to the bathroom where they play, eat, and sleep. Trust me, it can turn into a nightmare very quickly trying to train these habits out of them once they are established with the breeder. Are you grossed out yet? If you haven’t been around dogs or puppies this is probably all brand new information. I love telling people about the more obscure (or gross) parts of being a Goldendoodle breeder 😂.
