Available on my website—Oil paint on Stonehenge Oil Paper. This was one of my favorite paintings I’ve made in a while. Something about finding the settle color differences in the pink skin was so fun to play around with. And then exploring more vibrant and loose brushstrokes to tie it together. So much of this just felt like an exciting exercise, & that’s always my favorite way to paint🤍🐷

When it comes to making art for my own home I can’t always get myself to spend too much time on it. I want it to be quick and easy because I know I’ll probably change it around in a few months anyways. I made the center painting two years ago and I’ve had it hanging here for a few months but I really wanted to fill up more space. Since I had a roll of canvas this was a simple solution! It took me a couple hours to paint the two canvases, so hanging the metal cleats on the wall actually took longer than the paintings themselves (I definitely needed a taller ladder😅) Oh well!! Here’s the details about one of my favorite ways to start an oil painting☺️🎨 Starting with a charcoal drawing, I spray it with a fixative to keep it in place when I cover it with the oil paint. I use odorless paint thinner to wipe away excess paint and begin the underpainting process. The underpainting helps to unify the piece with the same ground color as well as establish values for the composition. The other benefit to this is that it provides a great base so in my next layer, I can use fast drying mediums so each layer will dry within 24 hours. Here are the materials I used • General charcoal pencils @General Pencil Company • Winsor & Newton final fixative (this is the only fixative I trust for this technique) • Blick brand oil paint • Odorless paint thinner • Cradled primed panel (idk the brand but I reprimed it anyways with blick gesso to get it smoother)

How I made my adjustable wall easel! There may be a better way to create this, but I wanted to make it by only using scrap wood I already had. I used a makeshift French cleat system where I cut wood at a 45 degree angle. They are attached to the studs in the walls and i evened them out using a level. The flat piece of wood that holds the canvas has a stopper on it to keep my canvases up, for this one it’s trim but I’ve also used another flat piece of wood before. So far I haven’t had any issues with this so it was a good, cheap solution for my small studio! If you have any questions I’ll do my best to answer them in the comments🫶
