Years ago, my cousin passed away from leukemia, and as a kid, I never thought something like that could happen in my family. It was a heartbreaking experience that changed my perspective on life and planted a deep passion in me to give back to pediatric cancer patients. My family is from Mexico, and we grew up with very little—often facing eviction notices, negative bank balances, and repossessions. Despite the struggles, those challenges taught us resilience, gratitude, and the importance of family. This Christmas, I wanted to return to my homeland, a place that shaped who I am, to help children battling cancer. It has always been my dream to come back to Mexico, to uplift my people, and to bring hope to kids fighting such a tough battle. Standing here today, I realize how every hardship I faced—the loss of my cousin, the struggles of growing up—shaped me into the man I am. Those experiences lit a fire in me to make a difference, to offer light in the darkest moments, and to remind others they are never alone. Life is so precious and so fleeting. Nobody can truly understand the depth of a struggle unless they’ve walked through it themselves. So this Christmas, I encourage you to hold your loved ones close, spread kindness wherever you go, and be a light in someone else’s life. Let’s make the world a better place, one act of love at a time. I hope everyone is having a truly beautiful and meaningful Christmas.
