A post by @itsonuh on TikTok caption: The unfortunate reality is that the vast majority of roosters are culled as hatchlings. The ones that make it through that will more than likely either get dumped somewhere or get put down & eaten because of their crowing. There are MANY benefits to keeping a rooster, and I believe this to be a humane way of keeping them without disturbing nearby neighbors and to allow more roosters to live healthy, fulfilling lives... possibly in places where they wouldn't normally be allowed! . When applied properly, these collars do not impede their ability to crow, mate, eat, drink, dust bathe & live a normal life. They don't love it at first as they get used to it, but it's a much more kind option than the stew pot ❤️ please look up tutorials on YT for safe application of these collars. #suburbanhomestead #urbanhomestead #homestead #chickens #backyardchickens #chickensoftiktok

A post by @itsonuh on TikTok caption: "Chicken Influencers" are talking about this conspiracy for views but if you're interested in the truth then buckle up! Yes- many peoples hens aren't laying eggs right now but there are physiological reasons behind this and it is NOT the feed! Around August/September chickens molt, so they stop laying eggs for 1-2 months each because they need to utilize that energy to grow fluffy new feathers to keep them warm for winter. And then this time rolls into the months of the year where there are less than 14 hours of daylight. Chickens body cycles run almost completely off of light. They need 15+h of light in their eyes every day to lay eggs. So naturally they stop laying from their late summer's molt until March/April UNLESS you live near the equator or give them supplemental light! Most people don't supplement light because they believe it's "not natural and not fair" to their birds. To each their own, but currently I feed my hens the crappiest, cheapest, non-organic feed and they're still laying every single day because ✨️surprise✨️ they have lights! I love a good conspiracy but this one is so dumb 🤣 #eggshortage #eggs #eggprices #conspiracy #chicken #chickens #chickenfeed #debunked #avianinfluenza
