Postpartum was brutal. I'm no stranger to depression but what I experienced after having my daughter was a different breed. In past bouts of sadness I still cared about myself but this time I lost all self love. I was quicker to anger than I'd ever been. I remember balling to my husband telling him I didn't recognize or like myself inside or out. I loved my baby but I genuinely hated myself. I felt isolated and trapped in my head, drowning in the scariest thoughts which always followed with guilt. I hated that I hated myself when I should be grateful for what I have. But it went on. Honestly it wasn't until about 6 months ago that I fully broke through it and am thankful for the whole experience and what I've learned. Which is this --- Focusing on others can be self care. In searching for the good and the need in the people around me I re-fell in love with humanity. And I remembered that I am part of humanity. And I deserve love too. ... also, therapy slaps. 🙏🫶 If you're in a dark place, there is light. Keep going. Keep seeking.
