I’ve spent time reflecting on how to cultivate more gratitude and positivity in my life. While I naturally tend to look at the positives in life, I’ve realized that I cannot solely rely on this inherent positivity. I need to actively train my mind to be even more positive. It requires conscious effort to direct my thoughts in the best possible direction so that my perception of life remains positive. It’s interesting to know that humans are naturally wired to think negatively. This can stem from survival instincts developed thousands of years ago. For instance, if we stood near a bush and heard it rustle, our immediate assumption would have been that a predator was lurking, ready to attack. That negative thought served as protection. On the other hand, a positive thought like “It’s only the wind” could have been dangerous. This negativity bias was essential for survival. There are countless situations that can be viewed through either a positive or negative lens, and I’ve noticed how much my thoughts influence my perception of the world and my experiences. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by challenges or problems, I choose to focus on the gratitude I feel for them—how they encourage me to grow, learn, and gain deeper understanding. By intentionally seeking the positives in every situation, I feel lighter, more optimistic, and deeply appreciative of even the smallest things in life.
