Former New York Congressman, passed at 94 on May 26, 2025. American politician who served as U.S. representative for districts in New York City for 46 years. A member of the Democratic Party, he was the second-longest serving incumbent member of the House of Representatives at the time of his retirement in 2017, having served continuously since 1971, and the ninth-longest serving in history. Today was the day he has sung about for decades. He met his beloved Savior and entered the portals of glory. At the same time, we rejoice knowing that we will see him again one day. For over seven decades, Brother Swaggart poured out his life preaching the gospel, singing songs of the faith, and pointing millions to the saving power of Jesus Christ and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. His voice echoed through nations, his music softened hearts, and his message never changed: Jesus Christ and Him crucified. He was not just a preacher—he was a worshiper, a warrior, and a witness to the grace and mercy of God. He was a man whose faith was steadfast and always entered whatever door the Lord opened. And the Lord honored that faith. Fernander Barr, a well-known funeral home owner and former marine, was killed Thursday night on Simmons Street.Sunday afternoon, Lake City residents gathered to celebrate his life and demand answers. A wave of grief swept through Lake City, as balloons filled the sky in memory of Fernander Barr, commonly known to many as “Tick.” Barr died Thursday night after police say he was stabbed, suffering severe neck lacerations in what they’re calling a domestic-related incident. “This has been a shock wave that’s gone over Lake City,” Debbie Cunningham, a long-time friend of the late Fernander Barr, said. “Everybody is shattered, because to know him was to love him, and he is truly going to be missed.” For 35 years, Barr served his community, not just as a funeral director at Graham and Godwin Funeral Home.He was also a proud marine and a man, friends say, who had an unwavering spirit. “He was a gentle person, and he was a kind person, he was so kind to everybody,” Weaver said. “I don’t think I’ve ever, all the years I’ve known him since high school— since he was a young man, never seen him get upset with anybody, he always had a smile on his face.” “He was a pillar to our community,” Cunningham said. “He was always there for you, regardless of whether it was a funeral service or whatever it may have been, always there and willing to lend a helping hand.” Lake City police chief Patrick Miles confirms all three people involved in the incident on Thursday knew each other—two are related. Those close to Barr say they’re grieving—but seeking justice. “We just want there to be justice for him,” Weaver said. “We want them to investigate this and do the best job that they can do because people in this community, we want answers, and we just want the truth,h we just want to know what happened.” A private service for Barr will be held in Scranton on Wednesday morning.
