A post by @sayitoncedogtraining on TikTok caption: Does your dog get over Excited when you get ready to go for a walk? Are you contributing to the problem? Dogs get super fired up when their owners announce the walk. Another common problem is that dogs get really fired up when they pick up the dog leash, and if you’re having that problem, you just need to start moving the leash around your house more frequently, and leashing your dog more frequently without going for a walk. If you start the walk with a great deal of energy and excitement, you will tend to see more leash pulling, reactivity, jumping and leash biting. The neighborhood walk is not a time that we want our dog over overreacting. Simply grab the leash, make your dog wait at the front door, and go for your walk. Start calm, end calm.

A post by @sayitoncedogtraining on TikTok caption: Let’s talk doodles. Here’s the honest truth, I actually like them. I love to train them. I’ll probably even adopt one someday. But I also think there is too much of this fairytale story that they are the perfect family dog. You have to understand it’s one of the main five dogs that we see, and I think families are often surprised by the amount of energy and anxiety they can have. I love the Bernese mountain dog, although a breed that is being overbred to death because of their popularity.

A post by @sayitoncedogtraining on TikTok caption: The easiest way to correct your puppy for peeing in the house and potty training your dog. The devil is in the details! . . . . On a serious note as well for potty training, our new puppy Captain crunch is four months old, and we’ve only had one accident in the house, and I would deemed that he is potty trained. I’m actually pretty proud of him, but also pissed that I allowed him to make one mistake in the house. How do you get a new puppy and have no accidents? You stick to our puppy cycle! I cannot stress this enough.

A post by @sayitoncedogtraining on TikTok caption: We’ve had Captain Crunch for 11 days now. No potty accidents, almost zero biting, and he already knows 6 commands. How is that possible? Well lets talk about it ⬇️ Firstly, the crate is a lifesaver for you, if you train it right. Your dog should LOVVEEE going into their crate, and one easy way to do that is to feed their food in the crate. When CC was transferred from West Virginia he came to us on some pretty cheap kibble, but as soon as we started to make the switch to @petplate Fresh Food, well you can see the motivational difference lol. Second, you need to train your puppies brain every single day! It’s like a sponge, and do you know what happens to sponges? They dry up!! Use the other portion of your dogs food for obedience and trick training, and don’t wait to start training! Third, use babysitters to your advantage. What do I mean by that? By now you know my secret system for having a well behaved dog. Potty break 15-40 minutes of Play, Exercise, or Training Potty Break 15 minutes Chew/Eat/Babysitter Crate Nap Repeat But what is the Babysitter? I’m a huge fan of taking his PetPlate, and stuffing it inside of a rubber toy so he has to spend 10 minutes going to town to eat it. It gives me just enough time to do anything that is pressing, and I always have two ready to go on deck.

A post by @sayitoncedogtraining on TikTok caption: How many people watch their dog on camera? sometimes I think that there needs to be a balance, and I think humans may have the separation anxiety issues instead of their dog. With that being said, the importance, especially early on while crate training your dog, of being able to watch how long it takes your dog to settle, and that progressively should get shorter overtime. Thankful for this camera from @Petcube

A post by @sayitoncedogtraining on TikTok caption: Sweet little foster dog Captain Crunch working hard to impress his foster dad. The last rep, you can see him actually think. It’s beautiful to watch a dog learn. It’s called Say It Once Dog Training not just because we expect our dogs to listen on the first command, but also as a reminder to not repeat yourself. Give your dog the opportunity to succeed.

A post by @sayitoncedogtraining on TikTok caption: You need to teach your dogs how to walk in a human pace. It’s uncomfortable for them, but it’s also important if you want your dog to be a well-behaved citizen. If you’re constantly trying to walk faster to appease your dog, we need to understand that you are conditioning that this is the normal for your walk. Also, it verifies to your dog that the harder they pull and the faster they walk the quicker they will get to their objective, Which can spoil a lot of your training if you wanna go on a nice calm leisure walk. This is a good reminder that it’s OK to do your figure r8’s and slow your dog down both physically and mentally. Not everything has to be done at fullbore. Create times where your dog is allowed to run and go crazy, but that doesn’t have to be on our walk. Headed back to Cincinnati Jan 27-31! Wooooo, can’t wait

A post by @sayitoncedogtraining on TikTok caption: This is how you get bit, and also this kid is a boss. there are so many videos of dogs laying down or sitting down out to dinner, and someone leans over top of them to give affection. The dog gets extremely uncomfortable, shows a few warning signs that always go unnoticed, and then snaps at the person directly in the face. One way to combat that is just like this kid did, if you plan on controlling your dog, also let them know that you control everything.

A post by @sayitoncedogtraining on TikTok caption: Do not jiggle a treat bag when your dog barks! you have to find the middle ground between understanding the barking by itself is not that big of a deal, and also understand that your dog should listen and respect your word no. I really don’t care if my dogs bark, their dogs are going to bark. It’s inevitable. However, if I tell my dog to stop, I do expect them to stop. I’m not gonna try to reason with my dog, and I’m definitely not going to distract my dog with food. Another point to add as I don’t want my dog to exist in the word no. Once I’ve taught my dog that this particular behavior is unacceptable, I’m not going to stay in that mindset for an extended period of time. I then wanna help my dog win, and give my dog an appropriate behavior to perform.

A post by @sayitoncedogtraining on TikTok caption: Resource guarding is no joke, it’s not a behavior that should be displayed by any dog that’s gonna live inside of your home. Whatever your puppy is going to practice will only get amplified by 100 as they are an adolescent and adult. This is why it’s so important that if you’re gonna go to a breeder, you meet the parents you meet the dogs and you meet the humans behind the dogs. guaranteed, dogs like this will bite someone severe enough to go to the hospital and change their life forever.

A post by @sayitoncedogtraining on TikTok caption: The decision game, it is a beautiful thing to watch a dog start to make decisions on their own. My end goal for training is simple, I want to be involved in as little as possible, and my dogs decision-making. I want them to just make good decisions on their own now at the beginning, because most dogs tend to be extremely poor decision makers, I will micromanage indirect my dog to what it is they’re supposed to be doing. But as you build better habits, you will give more freedom, and with freedom comes the ability for your dog to decide. With these decisions, you will start to notice how well your training has affected your dog. The reason for the longer leash is to get the dog further away from me, not only does it make them not feel as constricted, but also you typically have less influence of your dog the further they are from you. This is one of the reasons we’ve been selling so many of our hands-free leashes, because you can use the leash as a normal walking tool, or you can give your dog 10 feet of slack to enjoy sniffing around in.
