I love crisp cold winter mornings. It’s 2 degrees today, but without fail since the summer we have flown every other day at a bare minimum, only missing a couple of flies thanks to some crazy winds. The children, birds and I have managed to fit so much into the season this year and we’ve had so much fun. I already can’t wait to do it all over again next year. Prior to the crazy storm Darragh we’ve been experiencing we had some beautiful flying weather perfect for Freeflying my macaws. I fly my macaws every other day without fail however the high winds we’ve had over the last two days means we’ve missed a fly. Mild winds offer an enriching challenge for free flighted parrots however extreme winds aren’t worth the risk so instead we stay home have some fun in the house with foraging and enrichment activities. with 3 to 4 flies a week without fail every week I missed flight isn’t the end of the world for my parents. ##animallove##viral##fyp##parrot##birds##parrothusbandry##freeflight

We have to make the most of every opportunity to fly, even if every opportunity to fly isn’t ideal. I’m sure everybody knows by now but I absolutely hate winter especially January and February. It really affects my mental health but getting out with these guys definitely makes things easier. I’m currently listening to Spanish guitar, flamenco, Carnival and traditional South African music to get me through the winter blues. How do you get through the miserable winter months and I can’t be the only one that absolutely detests January and February? Bring on the summer. Even if it’s pouring down with rain, I will still get these guys out Freeflying much to their despair. My macaws love flying and need to get out regardless of the weather at least 4 to 5 times a week and it won’t be long until Shelby is back flying with them now that I have her health back under control. Well, although we may label some behaviours with emotions we experience as humans, “excitement” can actually be lots of things. It can be fear, overstimulation, hormonal, stress related and much more.
