Is sewing clothes one of your New Year’s resolutions? Or maybe, you’ve sewn here and there, and you’re ready to take on something more! Before you dive in, I’ve listed 4 things that I think you should consider, that may help avoid any potential headaches. Firstly, check your manual on how to thread your sewing machine. If you’re experiencing thread nesting, skipped stitches, or jams, there’s a high chance it’s because of incorrect threading of the machine. So always make sure it’s threaded correctly. Second, I always recommend avoiding tricky fabrics if you’re a beginner, fabric that is slippery, stretchy or see-through poses more challenges. But if you’re going to do it, make sure you use the correct stitch length, tension, and needle. Disclaimer: this is a rough guide, every machine is different, and you should always do a scrap test first to ensure you have the correct settings.
