A post by @teaganjacobs.com on TikTok caption: Sewing pop quiz: Lock in your answer below ⭐️! There’s nothing worse than having pockets of excess fabric in your armhole, especially when you’re wanting a beautifully fitted bodice. Do not fret, it’s an easy fix. Simply push your excess fabric towards your shoulder seam, and adjust the new seam allowance. You’ll notice once you remove any excess fabric in the shoulder seam that these lines aren’t even anymore. So now, we’re going to either add or remove any fabric (depending on your fit and look preferences) to ensure your necklines and underarm are smoothed out and they match up again. Whilst you’re fitting your bodice perfectly, a bonus tip is that the side seam of your bodice should run straight down the body, it shouldn’t sway either to the front or back or the body. How did you go with the quiz, did you get it right!? 🤓 #teaganjacobs #sewtok #fashiondraping #patternmaking #creatorsearchinsights #sewadress #sewingtips #sewinghacks

A post by @teaganjacobs.com on TikTok caption: Learning to drape with the fabric I hate the most, chiffon. Sure, it’s light and pretty, and it drapes beautifully. But it also pulls, is slippery, and is notoriously frustrating to work with. I’ve never had any previous positive experiences with chiffon, but I’m in a forgiving mood, and I have a sample laying around. So let’s be brave and do a test drape to see if I can learn to love this fabric. #teaganjacobs #sewtok #fashiondraping #sewadress #fashiontiktok #couturesewing #fashiondesigner #fabricmanipulation

A post by @teaganjacobs.com on TikTok caption: Aquamarine shell dress 🐚 Creating my own floaty and sheer layers of shell shaped appliqué made from a white cotton. I used three different thread colours to sew the lines in the shells to give subtle dimension to the shells. I’ve been playing around with layering them, and pinching the base of the shells in order to keep them soft and light. And not sit too flat to the body. They will eventually all be hand sewn together to form one dress. #teaganjacobs #sewtok #sewingtiktok #fabricmanipulation #fashiondesigner #sewingtiktok #dressmaking

A post by @teaganjacobs.com on TikTok caption: Straw tube pull! Use a straw and something pointy to turn a closed end tube in side out 🥤. 1. Insert your closed end tube over something cylindrical, like a large straw. 2. Using something thin, long and strong- like a straw cleaner, push down through the opening of the straw 3. Remove your long pointy thing and your straw to reveal a tube turned inside out! Hot tips for guys and gals who read captions: this large straw is great for tubes 2.5cm and wider. Use a smaller straw for a smaller tube. Dont have a straw? You can also use a safety pin. I prefer this because it’s not poking any holes in the fabric, which is nice if you have a particularly delicate or dramatic fabric. Don’t have a straw cleaner? You can use a skewer or a pencil. This only works for closed end tubes, have something that’s open ended? My tool of choice is a loop turner! #teaganjacobs #sewtok #sewingtiktok #sewinghack #sewingtips #sewingtricks #sewing #dressmaking

A post by @teaganjacobs.com on TikTok caption: Take two of making organza flowers and this time I’m trying out a different method. A spiral strip, and using a thread zapper instead of a candle. If you love inhaling plastic then this method is for you. Initially I thought the thread zapper would be easier to control and faster than using a candle. But I found it way too hot and the direct heat just made the fabric burn, and fibres to stick to the heating element, which gave off wisps of smoke. I’m hoping to still use the thread zapper in the future, maybe just for thread this time. #teaganjacobs #sewtok #fabricmanipulation #organzaflower #sewingtiktok #handsewing

A post by @teaganjacobs.com on TikTok caption: It would be silly of me not to say thank you before it’s too late. Although I live where a TikTok ban doesn’t take place, my small business will feel the impact of all of my American friends not being present on this app. Because of TikTok I went from selling clothes locally, in one of the most isolated cities in the world, to shipping clothes from my handmade womenswear label all over the world. Especially America. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being here, and supporting me in anyway you have. #teaganjacobs #savetiktok #SmallBusiness #sewtok #sewingtiktok

A post by @teaganjacobs.com on TikTok caption: Is sewing clothes one of your New Year’s resolutions? Or maybe, you’ve sewn here and there, and you’re ready to take on something more! Before you dive in, I’ve listed 4 things that I think you should consider, that may help avoid any potential headaches. Firstly, check your manual on how to thread your sewing machine. If you’re experiencing thread nesting, skipped stitches, or jams, there’s a high chance it’s because of incorrect threading of the machine. So always make sure it’s threaded correctly. Second, I always recommend avoiding tricky fabrics if you’re a beginner, fabric that is slippery, stretchy or see-through poses more challenges. But if you’re going to do it, make sure you use the correct stitch length, tension, and needle. Disclaimer: this is a rough guide, every machine is different, and you should always do a scrap test first to ensure you have the correct settings. Cotton: Stitch length: 2.5-3mm Tension: ~4 Needle: Universal 70/10 or 80/12 Linen: Stitch length: 2.5-3mm Tension: ~3-4 Needle: Universal 80/12 or 90/14 Knit: Stitch length: 3mm or zigzag Tension: ~3-4 Needle: Ballpoint or stretch Denim: Stitch length: 3-4mm Tension: ~4-5 Needle: Denim needle or 90/14 or 110/8 Rayon: Stitch length: 2-2.5mm Tension: ~3 Needle: Microtex 70/10 #teaganjacobs #sewtok #sewingtiktok #sewingtricks #sewingtips #beginnersewing #sewinghelp

A post by @teaganjacobs.com on TikTok caption: Meow, my cat (PJ) does my voiceover. Everyday she watches sew (sleeps on the job), so it’s only right she has a turn at my voiceover to prove all her sewing knowledge to her loyal fan base. So let PJ teach you how to do a French seam. 1. Sew your fabric wrong sides together I did 0.7cm for my first seam allowance 2. Trim your seam allowance, this makes it easier to sew your second seam in the same spot, and not have any fabric sticking out from your new seam 3. Press your fabric with your seam allowance to one side, depending on where the seam is in your garment, most seams are pressed towards the back of the body 4. Fold the fabric over, so your fabric is sandwiching your first seam, all raw edges will be enclosed and you should be now looking at the inside of your fabric 5. Sew again, I did 0.7cm again 6. Press again 7. Voila! #teaganjacobs #sewtok #creatorsearchinsights #frenchseams #sewingtips #sewingtricks #fashiontiktok
