Recently, Hashbrown stopped eating and went into GI stasis. We rushed to the emergency vet and found out he had a liver lobe torsion—a repeat of the same issue he had a few months ago. Back then, we managed it with meds, but for some reason, it flared up and this time surgery was recommended. Thankfully, the surgery went well, and our brave little bun is now recovering at home 🥹❤️ 💸 The bill? $8K—and that’s the low end of the estimate. Luckily we have insurance. This is your friendly reminder to: 1️⃣ If your bunny stops eating or pooping for more than 8 hours, go to the vet! It might be a simpler GI stasis case that an experienced bunny owner can manage at home OR something that requires immediate medical attention like a liver lobe torsion. 2️⃣ Get pet insurance! We use Nationwide (the only option we know of for bunnies). Emergency vet bills can add up fast, so don’t wait until it’s too late. Little hashy will be going for a recheck soon so we’ll keep you updated on his progress! 💜
