A funeral home allegedly gave a grieving family their son’s brain in a leaking cardboard box. In a lawsuit, Lawrence Butler, the father of Timothy, 56, stated that they visited the funeral home to collect his son’s belongings after his untimely death. Upon arrival, they received a white cardboard box containing an unlabeled red box among his possessions. After several days, the family noticed a smell and realized the box began to leak. When Butler picked it up, the fluid covered his hands. He discovered it was his son’s brain. Now two funeral homes are involved here. Timothy died in Georgia, and Southern Cremations sent his remains to Nix & Nix Funeral Homes in Pennsylvania, where the family retrieved his belongings. Nix & Nix claims they are not at fault, blaming Southern Cremations for sending the unlabeled box. However, the family says it doesn’t matter who sent the box. They allege it was not listed among the belongings from Southern Cremations and should never have been given to them.
