Every now and then, I make a tune that puts fresh wind in my sails and opens doors that weren’t there before — and this is one of those tunes. 💨⛵️ I distinctly remember making this on one of the hottest days of the year in August 2023. It was about 32°C, and since it was a weekend, anyone in their right mind in the UK was either at the beach, in the park, or at the pub. But I’d had a busy summer, so I stuck to my guns, got into the studio, and made this video. The week before, a friend text me saying, “You should do a @coldplay remix — it’s the 20-year anniversary of A Rush of Blood to the Head.” My favourite tune from that album is God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, so I set out to do it. I spent about three or four hours writing the track, and then another three or four hours getting the video right. At this point, it must’ve been 35–36°C in the studio — I was sweating buckets. 🥵I kept telling myself, just do a quick one, then go soak in some rays at the beach. Turns out, it became a 10-minute epic video and I didn’t go outside once! I had a lot of fun making it, but I remember thinking at the end, I don’t think this is gonna do very well. It’s a bit weird… have I gone a bit too far!? I really hesitated to put it out. But it turned out to be the opposite. Turns out people were digging it, despite it being a 10 minute extravaganza! In a world where you’re constantly told that short-form content is king, the longest video I’ve ever made ended up doing the best. So, to any creators out there worried about putting something out that feels a bit different or risky — my advice is: if you enjoyed making it, and you think it’s even slightly fun or cool or meaningful, just put it out. Let the world judge it, and move on. 🏃♂️ Yeah — so this is one of those tunes. Enjoy.
