When I was a young kid pursuing dance, my dance company brought us to see an Alvin Ailey Dance Company show, and it changed my world. Two months ago, I had the privilege of seeing them again as their tour came through my city, and it reminded me of how important they are to American History, as well as the history of black and queer resilience. You must see them perform if you are able, and we must keep this history alive. This research was made possible by the receipt of the Brennens Summer Research Fellowship from the Office of Fellowships, Opportunities, and Undergraduate Research at The University of Vermont.
