Another way to battle boredom in your songs is to keep your chord progressions interesting. Set up a familiar pattern, then break it to surprise the listener. To do this, experiment with borrowed chords - within the key, if the chord you usually play is in its minor form, try switching to its major form (or vice versa). It’s an easy way to add unexpected color and keep your song evolving.
