As someone who was in ABA as a patient for 4 years of my childhood, I don’t support ABA but there are factors people in the autism community completely ignore and they ignore the people who have been in ABA as patients as well. United Health care knows that many ABA/autism therapy practices covered by them operate under the guise of ABA but provide healthier, safer, and kinder practices than therapies that existed in the 00s, 90s, and before. People actively want to make change but the only autism related therapy that is forced to be covered by the federal government is ABA. United Health care is taking the one option non-English speakers and underprivileged/lower-income families are presented with. This isn’t a simple problem like many privileged people make it out to be. I don’t know if reform is possible but there aren’t many places for people to go.
