Disabled people bring innovative thinking to organizations, and disabled-owned businesses spark unforgettable experiences. Ziryab hires Deaf and hearing employees, and one of the owners is Deaf. It’s an extremely popular restaurant in Barcelona. Why do you think that is? Descriptive Transcript: Haben and her Seeing Eye dog walk along a flagstone, pedestrian street past a large window showing a warmly lit restaurant. Haben (Voiceover): When I travel, I seek out disability owned establishments. And in Barcelona we found a Deaf owned tapas restaurant! As she walks by the door, the video shows a circular, golden sign fixed to a rectangular panel of wood. In the center, "Ziryab" is written in flowing letters beside a drawing of a tree. Across the top of the circle is written: "Taverna Gastronomica", and at the bottom: "la vida amb un twist". Haben (Voiceover): It's called Ziryab. The camera shows archways leading to other dining areas, rugged brick walls, and dark wooden beams along the ceiling. Haben (Voiceover): Our server actually knows American Sign Language, so I could sign with her! Haben is seated at a small, square wooden table, and standing beside her is a woman wearing a blue apron tied around her waist. The woman has her dark brown hair piled on her head in a bun and her nails are painted a vibrant blue. Haben (Voiceover): I sign: May I ask your name? Haben places her hands over the server's hands as she begins to sign. Haben (Voiceover): She signs: My name is M-A-D-O-N-A and my sign name is like this. She taps her cheek with the X handshape, and I do the same thing. Madona nods and smiles as she watches Haben sign. Haben (Voiceover): I love the food here! It's very good! Photo: Crispy, golden halloumi sticks topped with sesame seeds and a green sauce sit on a plate. Haben (Voiceover): We had grilled halloumi sticks covered in pistachio and lime pesto. Photo: Little pastries with golden brown layers of filo and chopped nuts, with a dusting of pistachios on top. Haben (Voiceover): There were mini baklawas, which is similar to baklava but not the same. The video returns to Haben gently feeling Madona’s hands as she continues their conversation. Haben (Voiceover): Madona signs: Thank you! I'm happy you're here! Hopefully you will come back. You're welcome.
