How to Render Tallow for face moisturizer, body butter, etc! 🧴🫧 Tallow is an ancient skincare secret—deeply moisturizing and rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K. It’s the only thing I’ve found that really works for my skin!! Here’s how to render it: 1. Get 2-3 lbs of high-quality grass-fed beef suet or leaf fat. Trim off any meat or connective tissue, then chop it into small pieces or pulse in a food processor for faster melting. 2. Add the fat to a slow cooker or heavy-bottomed pot. Pour in 2-3 cups of filtered water to prevent burning. 3. Stir in a couple tbsp of unrefined salt—this helps draw out impurities and improves the final texture. 4. Slow cook on low for 4-6 hours, stirring occasionally, until the fat is fully melted, and solids separate. (If using a stovetop, keep the heat on the lowest setting to prevent scorching.) 5. Pour the liquid tallow and water mixture into a large bowl and let it cool at room temperature until the fat solidifies on top. 6. Once hardened, lift the solid tallow off the top and scrape off any impurities from the bottom white a knife. Repeat the melting and straining process 1-2 more times to get rid of the smell (Or until there are no more impurities to scrape off the bottom). 7. Melt down pure tallow (no water) and add your mix ins! This is where you can get creative. I love mixing in jojoba oil and sometimes I’ll infuse it with different herbs for 4 weeks beforehand or you can use essential oils! You can also use olive oil, beeswax, shea butter, etc! 8. Let it solidify together at room temp and use a hand mixer to whip it so it becomes a light & fluffy texture! That’s it!!
