Anxiety serves a very important, evolutionary and emotional regulation purpose, mainly to prepare us to fend off a threat and deal with it. Sometimes that threat is physical, other times it is internal or cognitive. In either case it can be used to our positive impact and good effect. Yet by its nature anxiety, if it’s going to do its job well has an anticipatory and preparatory focus to it, but all too often that means we are excessively worrying about things that aren’t going to occur, and are not likely to happen. We have to get a hold of that and curb that tendency.
