Banh Mi Oven 📍13219 Research Blvd Suite 100, Austin, TX 78750 The grand opening and official launch of dine-in service is later this month. Later in the spring or summer, they’re planning to open a big patio, which sounds like a great spot for Asian community gatherings. Here are things we tried: Bánh Mì Thịt Nướng (Grilled Pork) The grilled pork bánh mì is solid, with well-seasoned meat and real Vietnamese butter—finally! Bánh Mì Nướng Muối Ớt (Grilled Bread Street Snack) The grilled bread is a modern Vietnamese street snack that’s hard to find elsewhere—it’s packed with umami pork floss, fried shallots, smeared with a savory spicy sauce and drizzles with, again, generous Vietnamese butter! Bò Kho (Beef Stew) Hearty, with a good balance of lean and fatty meat, tendon, and tender carrots. They don’t skimp on the annatto oil, which makes dipping their bread extra satisfying. Overall, their bread stands out to me with a dense yet airy texture and a unique cornmeal-dusted bottom. For pricing reference: ~$13: Banh Mi Oven Le Bleu, Pho With Us, Elizabeth Street Café. While none of these spots quite match the nostalgic flavors, Banh Mi Oven comes the closest. ~$7.50-$8.50: Pho Phong Lưu, Fresh Bowl, NG Cafe, TruBoba, Thanh Nhi. This is where most people settle and willing to pay. ~$6.50-$7.25: Baguette House and Lily’s Sandwiches, though these tend to have less filling. #atxasianfood #austinfood
Recap: Annual Tết Festival at Holy Martyrs Huge thanks to the volunteers for an incredible event! Tết at Holy Martyrs has been a beloved tradition, bringing the community together through food, games, and celebration. Growing up in Houston, these festivals were a staple in my life, and I’m grateful to experience that here. The #1 rule of Lunar New Year: Spread kindness, wish others well, and that goodwill will come back to you. 🧧 From Mass at 10 AM to the festival kickoff at 11 AM, the day was filled with delicious food, lively performances, and festive fun. Special shoutout to the moms, aunties, and uncles who made it all happen! See y’all next year! 🐍🐲 #asiansinaustin #atxasianfood
