If your child is doing one of these, thatās a sign that they have increased āwork of breathingā - meaning itās time to get them to see their doctor.Ā This does NOT mean that you need to panic - Iām showing you these, because some can be subtle, and parents donāt know what to look for unless theyāre trained. NOW you can also know how to recognize these while theyāre still early and subtle, and get your kiddo seen. ALSO, if you know what these are, you can use the words describing them, when talking to your physician and nurse, as that helps us give your child the best care, when we all are using the same vocabulary.Ā For reference: āNormalā breathing rate (breaths / minute), per age NOTE: always count the breathing for a full 60 seconds! * 0-6 months: 35-55 breaths / minuteĀ * 1-3 years: 25-45 * 3-6 years: 20 - 30 * 6-12 years: 16-24 * 12-18 years: 12-16 Got Qs?Ā Quick reference - if youāre in the thick of respiratory virus season at home, comment GUIDE and Iāll share my cold and flu first aid guide page. (Itās free. Just providing it because it answers so many of the Qs we docs get - and can help make parentsā lives easier) :)Ā Video credits (in order) @Tiny Hearts (head bobbing) Larry B.
