Statistics show the average lifespan of a police officer after retirement is just 5 to 7 years. I’ve got 3 years and some months left until retirement, and I’m determined to beat those odds. When I graduated the police academy, I was 160 pounds. But boredom eating on patrol quickly got me up to 245 pounds. A large pizza for lunch, wings, and snacks were normal for me. I now realize how these eating habits paired with the constant stress, elevated heart rate, and lack of movement in this job likely contribute to that post retirement stat. One day, your heart’s working overtime, and the next, you retire and it’s still. That’s a dangerous shift. For these last few years, I’m focusing on winding down, eating healthier, and staying active outside the job. This is my progress so far. I’m open to tips and suggestions to keep improving. Let’s beat these stats together. Thanks for watching! #LawEnforcementLife #RetiredPoliceOfficer #CopsOnTikTok #PoliceOfficer #BecomingACop #WhatDoCopsDo #WhatIsPoliceAcademyLike #PoliceCommunity

Thick skin is essential in this job. 🚔 People will insult you on calls, during traffic stops, and more. But remember professionalism is key. Don’t let emotions take over or act out of spite. The people in the street will come at you way harder than they ever could in police academy. The key is to not take it personal and also stay professional. #LawEnforcement #PoliceHumor #CopsOnTikTok #SevenSizzlingSausages #IThinkYourLispIsCute #PatrolOfficer #TrafficStop #BecomingACop #NewPoliceOfficers #WhatIsItLikeBeingACop #BackTheBlue
If youre in law enforcement, this is your reminder to try your best not to get fired! After being in law enforcement for a while we forget what its like to have a supervisor micromanaging us, demanding production quantity, and what labor intensive work is like. Ive been here all day assembling this furniture and it reminds me of the time I did this for a living working with a moving company delivering and assembling furniture. Police work is mentally and emotionally tiring, but few of us would happily transition back into physically demanding work. #firedpoliceofficer #copgotfired #cops #copsontiktok #criminaljusticedegree #becomingacop
My 14 year old daughter asked me what would I think if she followed my footsteps and got into law enforcement. I told her it was a horrible idea to do solely off of family tradition. I do see law enforcement as a great career field for someone that want it for what it is, but not for who’s in it. You have to have a people personality and a desire to help to happily do this job. A lot of your work may seem to go unnoticed or not mentioned, but you keep pushing because the bigger picture is the why. Why did you decided to get into law enforcement…. Maybe it was to feel a sense of duty, a desire to help people, or to be a different. I came totally experimental and needed a job. I fell in love with being able to help people and be a positive experience with a law enforcement officer where opportunity allow. #whydoyouwanttobeacop #becomingacop #cops #whatispoliceacademylike #policefamily #policeworkisacalling
In this video I discuss more about Ai choosing Birmingham police department as the number one police department in the state. Although I agree with the placement, my reasons why likely differ from those of Ai. I will speak on pay rate, sign on bonuses, longevity pay, uniform allowance, and opportunity. I also admire the department as a whole for the effort it out into community policing and bridging gaps to build trust and create understanding. Tell me what do you think make a police department great. #birminghampolice #birminghampolicedepartment #birminghamalabama #becomingacop #bestpolicedepartment #alabamapolicedepartment #hooveralabama #vestaviaalabama #mountainbrookalabama #bessemeralabama #tuscaloosapolicedepartment #gadsden #dothanalabama #huntsvillealabama
