Buddy’s Chicken & Waffles: The Tacoma Spot Besa Gordon Didn’t Know She Needed #SupportBlackBusiness - Hey friends! Let me put you on to Buddy’s Chicken & Waffles, a Black-owned gem in Tacoma, located right across the street from Lincoln High School. The second I walked in, I was greeted by this amazing, sweet aroma of waffles, and I just knew the food was about to slap. Before I even placed my order, I got to meet Buddy himself, who told me about all the different chicken and waffle options they serve. I got the Strawberry Shortcake Waffle with 2 hand-breaded chicken tenders Southern Cornbread Waffle with 2 hand-breaded chicken tenders and for my Halal fam, their chicken is Halal. While I waited for my food, I checked out the restaurant. They’ve got a TV, artwork on the walls by my girl Kay the Paint Lady, and even a bar if you’re in the mood for a little dranky-drank with your meal. When my food came out, the presentation was so on point that I almost didn’t want to touch it. But let’s be real—that wasn’t going to last long. The fires were fire! And the Buddy sauce they came with? Chef’s kiss. Now for the chicken. I tried one spicy tender and one regular. Peronsally, I liked the none spicey one better. The flavors and the crispiness were so on point that it didn’t even need sauce! The waffles, man the Southern Cornbread Waffle was perfectly balanced—not too sweet and not too cornbready (if you know, you know). And the Strawberry Shortcake Waffle? Whew, YUM.
