They say the best way to learn a language is to live it.. so that’s exactly what I did. 🌎 Most Spanish immersion trips take place in big cities, where life moves fast, distractions are everywhere, and English speakers are within reach. But I wanted something different. I wanted to be fully immersed - to learn by doing, speaking, and by living in a place where conversations couldn’t easily slip back into the familiarity of English. 💬 I’ve lost count of the times I could’ve navigated in my second language but let embarrassment win. 🤦🏽‍♀️ San Carlos was that place for me. 📍 A small mountain pueblo where foreigners are few and Spanish is the only way to connect. Every day was an adventure - swimming in the rivers, hiking to waterfalls, cooking Colombian dishes, and dancing the night away at discotecas. 🏊🏽‍♂️🥾💃🏽🎶 Struggling through conversations, but feeling that spark of pride when I finally could understand or be understood. 😊 From the outside looking in, San Carlos seems like the perfect little mountain town. But, it also has a powerful story. Up until the early 2000s, the armed conflict in Colombia emptied these streets, forcing most residents to flee. And the scars of that time still linger on the hearts of those here, but so does something stronger: a community that rebuilt and reclaimed their home with color, connection, and culture. 💗 Learning a language isn’t just about the vocabulary, but it's also about the people, history, and the courage to keep speaking, even when you don’t get it perfect. And San Carlos gave me all of that and more. 🇨🇴✨ ---- #TravelCommunity #ColombiaTravel #visitcolombia #ExploreColombia #TravelColombia #SouthAmericaTravel #CulturalTravel #AuthenticTravel #igerscolombia #igcolombia #studyabroad #blacktravelfeed #blacktravelmovement #BlackGirlsTravel #essencetravels

You will walk a good 20/30 minutes from arrival in CDG Airport to the RER B. You can always take a taxi, but that will take just as long and cost much more. I prefer the RER cause you also get to see the scenery as you're riding into the city and hear French all around you. If you travel to Paris in January, it will be cold. Really cold. No matter where you stay in Paris, there is a Tabac or a cafe you can go to, you just have to walk and you'll find one. And getting pastries from the bakery will also be much cheaper than going into a cafe and ordering them. I've got many more Paris tips for you!
