Do you know the root cause of your pelvic floor dysfunction? Chances are you have suffered for many years and if you have sought help from a doctor you have either been offered drugs or surgery or been told to do hundreds of kegels. And you were probably just told...and not taught how to do kegels or evaluated if you were doing them correctly. Our sick care system is simply not set up for root cause investigation so many women are dismissed, or offered interventions that don’t work in the long run because the root cause has not been addressed. In my buff muff method I take a whole body holistic approach that helps you uncover YOUR root causes and then gives you the tools to address them. Sometimes drugs or surgery are the best option but rarely and even if they are, whole body pelvic floor muscle training actually becomes even more important. Come and learn everything you needt to know about your pelvic floor and how to bring it back to vitality so you can age powerfully! Dr Arnold Kegel created an exercise called The Kegel. We have evidence to support its effectiveness when done correctly and consistently but we also have evidence to show that most women are doing kegels incorrectly. I applaud Dr Kegel for caring about women’s pelvic health and working to help his patients. What I have always found limiting about kegels however, is that they do not train the pelvic floor dynamically and they are broing so compliance is low...which means even if someone was doing them correctly they wouldn’t get much success because they would stop doing them. Iin the buff muff method I am working to expand upon Dr Kegel’s work by coordinating the kegel with the breath and by coordinating the breath and kegel into whole body movement so that we can retrain the reaction time of the pelvic floor while also building strength and endurance and suppleness. I use cues and visualiations to help women connect to a part of the body we can’t see. I also recommend seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist once a year, even if you have no symptoms but especially if you do. Come join us and transofrm your life! When our foundation (the pelvic floor) is not working optimally we may experience bothersome symptoms like bladder leaks, sudden urges, back pain and feelings of heaviness or pressure in the pelvis. Many women think these symptoms are just a normal part of aging and accept pads or discomfort as just part of life. Few are given the information and education and exercise that can actually improve and sometimes even eliminate these symptoms. Optimzing the foundation can also reduce our fall risk as we age, help off set age related muscle loss, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease because when we don't leak or have pain or feel pressure, we move more, we enjoy exercise and live life fully. When I ask women in my community what their 'why' is or their 'so that I can....' statement is, one of the most common responses is ...'so that I can play with my grandchildren without worry.' I want that for myself and for all of you. Let's age powerfully together! Let's buff our muffs together!
