On this day, December 29, 1890, U.S. troops massacred over 300 Lakota—women, children, elders, and men—at Wounded Knee Creek. This wasn’t just violence; it was genocide. A few weeks earlier, Sitting Bull, a warrior and protector of our people, was murdered for standing with the Ghost Dance, ceremony that reminded us of the strength of connection to the land and our liberation. The colonizers called it dangerous because it threatened their control and grounded us resistance. The US forced us onto reservations—prisons without walls—stole our lands, killed our food sources like buffalo to make us dependent on them . When the Ghost Dance spread, the US colonizers used fear to justify our genocide. At Wounded Knee, they didn’t care who they killed. They gave medals for murdering our children. They wanted to crush our spirit. But they failed. Wounded Knee is a wound that still bleeds, but it’s also a truth they can’t bury. Our spirit lives on. Our story continues. We remember. We continue to fight for land back and that the US occupation honor our treaties. We are sovereign nations being occupied by the US to this day. Any collective liberation that fails to center that, continues a legacy of our erasure and sovereignty. #wearestillhere #landback #honorthetreaties #lakota #native #woundedknee #rememberwoundedknee #woundedknee1973 #woundedknee1890 #burymyheartatwoundedknee #thanksgiving #thanks #nativeamerican #nativeamericans #american #americanindian #americanindians #landback #wearestillhere #indigenous #indigenouspeople #indigenousland #indigenouswater #nativetiktok #IndigenousTikTok #fyp #americanindianmovement #myheroshavealwayskilledcolonizers #myheroshavealwayskilledcowboys
