This is one of the things that would eventually lead to Tobago being joined to Trinidad. Mind you though, up util this time the two islands had not had any true prior dealings woth each other having been colonized and administrated separately. #caribbeanhistory #tobagohistory #tobagotiktok #trini_tiktoks #caribbeantiktok #caribbeantiktokeurs🇭🇹🇬🇾🇹🇹🇸🇷🇯🇲 #onthisday
There’s a troubling trend on social media promoting Indigenous Caribbean and African erasure. Some falsely claim the Caribbean’s original inhabitants were Black people due to misinterpreted historical accounts. Others pretend to be Indigenous Caribbean without evidence, while some even deny the Transatlantic Slave Trade ever happened. And yes, due to centuries of intermarriage, today’s Indigenous Caribbean people also proudly carry West and North African ancestry, which is undeniable- yet it doesn’t make us less Indigenous and connected to our Land. After 532 years of ongoing colonial violence, we are still here. Pretenianism is just another form of erasure. #IndigenousCaribbean #WeAreStillHere #StopErasure #Decolonize #AfroIndigenous #CaribbeanHistory #IndigenousIdentity Hahom @N8VsOnly for creating this image and sparking this topic.
