Can’t believe it’s been one year since our Sony Burano live demo with Shane Hurlbut, ASC. This was an unforgettable experience and remains our most successful live presentation to date. In this clip, Shane and colorist Derek Johnson conduct a skin tone test comparing the Sony Burano, Venice 2, and F55 to analyze color rendition and sensor performance. Each camera was equipped with ND 0.6 and matched with a 50mm Optimo Prime on the Burano and Venice 2, and a 40mm on the F55. The lighting setup was carefully controlled: * Key light at 3200K * Fill light at 3600K * Background lit with streaks of light As they reviewed the footage, Shane noticed a slight magenta shift in the Burano. To correct this, he had Derek apply a -2 green offset in-camera, which instantly balanced the Burano to better match the Venice 2—allowing for seamless cross-cutting between the two. Shane also broke down his thick negative philosophy, a technique carried over from his film days. By overexposing slightly (⅔ to a full stop), he ensures richer shadow detail, greater highlight retention, and added depth in post-production. Derek agreed, emphasizing that a fatter negative provides more flexibility in color grading while protecting highlight information. Watch the full 3hr live demo on our YouTube channel. See more touch tracking scenarios, the BURANO’s in-body stabilization on the Ronin 2 and RS 3 PRO, and how it compares to the VENICE 2 and F55. You don’t want to miss this! A huge thank you to Sony for having us be part of this incredible event, and to our event partners who helped make this possible: • Sony Cine • B&H • INOVATIV • Nanlux • Flanders • Hollyland • Tiffen • Musicbed • Keslow • MBS #filmmaking #filmmaker #filmmakers #filmmakersacademy #filmeducation #filmschool #onset #cinematographer #cinematographers #cinematography #directorofphotography #filmindustry #movieindustry #membership #learnfilmmaking #sony #sonycine #sonyburano #sonyvenice2 #venice2 #behindthescenes #techspecs #dop #liveevent #demo #shanehurlbut #shanehurlbutasc #anamorphic #anamorphiclenses #lenses #filmtok #filmmakersoftiktok #filmmakingtiktok

Want to land more commercial directing gigs? Here’s a crucial tip: If you simply repeat the agency’s story in your pitch, you won’t land the job. They’re hiring YOU for your unique perspective, energy, and passion. 💡 Pro Tip from @Jordan Brady When you get on a call, don’t just dive in with “Here’s my take.” Instead, ask questions. Go on an exploratory phase—let the agency walk you through the board as they see it. You’ll uncover insights between the lines that can set your pitch apart. Shane Hurlbut, ASC, believes that first call is where they decide who gets the job. They’ll still have you write a treatment, but that initial meeting? That’s the real test. Be prepared, be confident, and be ready to adapt. This is a clip from our 3-hour live seminar, where Shane Hurlbut, ASC, and director Jordan Brady review their winning pitches, break down why they worked, and workshop the director-cinematographer workflow in commercial filmmaking. 🔹 WHAT YOU’LL LEARN: ✔️ Mastering the Pitch – How to craft compelling presentations that win bids. ✔️ The Art of Collaboration – Strengthening the director-DP relationship for seamless execution. ✔️ Pre-Production Powerhouse – Breaking down scripts, crafting shot lists, and location scouting. ✔️ On-Set Excellence – Real-time problem-solving, leadership, and adaptability. ✔️ Post-Production Perfection – Enhancing your final product with editing, color grading, and sound design. This seminar is packed with actionable insights from two industry pros who have booked top commercial jobs. Whether you’re a new filmmaker or a seasoned pro, you’ll gain real-world knowledge to take your career to the next level. Now available on-demand on Filmmakers Academy. How do you rig a Condor boom lift for a large-scale night exterior? In this exclusive preview from our latest Filmmakers Academy lesson, key grip Brendan Riel breaks down the essential rigging techniques that make a DP’s creative vision possible. Working alongside Shane Hurlbut, ASC, Brendan walks through the step-by-step process of preparing a 120-foot Condor boom lift for a complex night exterior lighting setup. Brendan explains the importance of weight capacity calculations, referencing the 1200 Ultra’s unrestricted and restricted lift ranges to ensure safe load limits. He details what a traditional basket rig looks like—using candlesticks and speed rail—and explains how the final rig was adapted to accommodate moving lights beneath the basket. The lesson highlights how a cluster of four Nanlux 2400B fixtures was positioned as the primary moonlight source, controlled remotely for precise adjustments in color temperature, intensity, and beam spread—eliminating the need for personnel in the lift. To add depth and dimension to the background, moving lights were rigged at the bottom of the basket using the Modulus-X truss system, providing subtle color contrasts and dynamic illumination across the set. Brendan emphasizes that safety is paramount, showcasing how each element—from trusses and movers to cable management and hardware—must be meticulously accounted for to ensure a balanced and secure setup without compromising on the cinematic quality of the shot. @Legacy Grip 👉 Watch the full lesson on Filmmakers Academy. 💡 Become a member today for unlimited access to expert-led courses designed to elevate your filmmaking craft. 🔗 Link in bio for full access. #film #filmmaker #filmmakers #filmmakersacademy #keygrip #grip #local80 #griprigs #rigging #onset #behindthescenes #cinematography #cinematographer #cinematographers #filmindustry #learnfilmmaking #filmeducation #filmschool #condor #boomlift #filmtok #filmmakersoftiktok #filmmakingtiktok

The draaamma #BookTok #bookseries #bachelor #theselectionseries #producer #screenwriter #cinematographers #hungergames #divergent I’ve been trying to get back into reading. These were the last books I read in high school before I stopped, so I started with them again, and they were just as good! The suspense and drama would make such a great movie! It’s basically a royal adaptation of The Bachelor, with themes from The Hunger Games and The Divergent Series, which so many people watch and love, so there has to be enough of an audience for it!
