The race for college admissions is easing, with acceptance rates at elite schools like Brown and Williams rising—while the number of applicants drops. Brown saw its early decision acceptance rate increase to 18% for the Class of 2029, marking the highest rate in six years. Williams College’s acceptance rate for early decision jumped to 26.6%, up from a record-low 23.3% the previous year. Factors Driving Easier Admissions: The Demographic Decline: A decline in high school graduates—due to the 2008 global recession and a drop in birth rates—is contributing to fewer students applying to college. Experts predict a 15% decrease in college enrollment after 2025, with some states like New York already seeing a drop. Financial and Academic Barriers: Schools like Dartmouth, Harvard, and Yale have reinstated test submission requirements. This may discourage some students, especially those from lower-income backgrounds, from applying. Shift in Post-Pandemic Education Trends: The pandemic and growing student debt concerns are causing many to question the value of a university degree. More students are opting to enter the workforce directly. The competition for spots at elite schools is becoming less intense, but the barriers to entry, like standardized test requirements, may make admissions harder for some students. As the enrollment cliff continues to unfold, we could see even more changes in college admissions in the years ahead. What’s Your Take? Are rising acceptance rates a sign of positive change or a bigger issue in the world of higher education? Comment your dream school to learn if the acceptance rate is likely to go up! #highschooljunior #ivyleague #applyingtocollege #collegeaps #highschoolsophmore #collegeadmissions #highschool #collegeadvice #collegeprep #collegeapplications #admissions #collegetips #collegeready #acceptancerate #universityadmissions #sat #topuniversities #collegeapp #collegeacceptance #ivyday #resumetips #highschoolintern #highschoolinternship #internship #highschoolstudent #standoutconnect #standoutsearch

Follow for more admissions advice! Often, the activities that admissions officers find the most compelling are those that allow them to get to know you as a person beyond academics, sports, or school clubs. These are the things that will make them remember you and want to fight for you. Two important activities most students forget to include are their hobbies and family responsibilities. Hobbies Talking about your hobbies is a great way to show that you are a curious, self-motivated person--some of the most integral qualities for success. It also helps you stand out from the crowd. Here are a few examples of hobbies you might not think to include on your application: - Creative writing (such as publishing stories in the world of your favorite book series online) - Collecting things (such as coins or old audio equipment) - Making YouTube videos - Moderating a Discord community relating to a topic you are passionate about - Doing independent coding projects - Running a food Instagram - Watching foreign films Family Responsibilities Caring for family can be very time-consuming and can add additional context to your application. It shows a higher level of responsibility and that you can be a dedicated part of a community. Here are some examples of family responsibilities that you should include on your application: - Helping to look after younger siblings for parents with a demanding schedule - Helping care for a sick family member - Having a role in the family business - Translating for immigrant parents as they adjust to life in a new country What questions do you have about including non-traditional activities on your application? #highschooljunior #ivyleague #applyingtocollege #collegeaps #highschoolsophmore #collegeadmissions #highschool #collegeadvice #collegeprep #collegeapplications #admissions #collegetips #collegeready #acceptancerate #universityadmissions #sat #topuniversities #collegeapp #collegeacceptance #ivyday #resumetips #highschoolintern #highschoolinternship #internship #highschoolstudent #standoutconnect #standoutsearch

Last year, a research associate at Harvard published an article (link in bio) entitled “Autistic kids have outsized success applying to top colleges.” The core reason for this posited dynamic comes down to the “spike” phenomenon. Top colleges love it when students develop specialized expertise in a niche topic. Spending your childhood in joyous obsession over rhinos, Mongol military techniques, plant extinctions, or the possibilities of extraterrestrial life can make you a very strong college applicant. Having singular interests demonstrates your ability to learn independently and makes you more memorable. Furthermore, having a track record of specialization can be predictive that you have the focus it takes to become a Nobel prize-winning scientist or billion-dollar entrepreneur who can donate a building. Obsessively self-studying a given field or “special interest” is a trait that is commonly associated with autism. Do you think autism could be a superpower when applying to top colleges? Comment if you have a special interest you love! #highschooljunior #ivyleague #applyingtocollege #collegeaps #highschoolsophmore #collegeadmissions #highschool #collegeadvice #collegeprep #collegeapplications #admissions #collegetips #collegeready #acceptancerate #universityadmissions #sat #topuniversities #collegeapp #collegeacceptance #ivyday #resumetips #highschoolintern #highschoolinternship #internship #highschoolstudent #standoutconnect #standoutsearch

Link in bio (resource page) for a template that will help you write a Letter of Continued Interest! Comment for advice on what achievements to send colleges after being deferred! Colleges defer candidates when they think that you have a strong profile but are not quite sure yet, either because they need to learn more about you or because they would like to compare you to future applicants. Read your deferral letter very carefully, as it will tell you if the school wants you to confirm your intention to be further considered or perhaps even refrain from sending more information. Most colleges will allow deferred applicants to submit an update to their application, such as through a letter of continued interest (see the link on the resource page of our bio to learn more about these letters). If you send an update, be sure to only include new compelling information such as: - Winning a competition - Securing an internship offer for the coming summer (check out the free high school internship search tool in our bio) - Starting a passion project or reaching a new milestone with an existing project - An increase in your grades (this should only be a brief mention as it is expected) #highschooljunior #ivyleague #applyingtocollege #collegeaps #highschoolsophmore #collegeadmissions #highschool #collegeadvice #collegeprep #collegeapplications #admissions #collegetips #collegeready #acceptancerate #universityadmissions #sat #topuniversities #collegeapp #collegeacceptance #ivyday #resumetips #highschoolintern #highschoolinternship #internship #highschoolstudent #standoutconnect #standoutsearch
