Synesthesia isn’t only “music as color”—it comes in many forms, and for me, it shapes my relationship with colors, textures, words, music, numbers, and more. When I think about colors, I feel specific twitches in my jaw that correspond to qualities like depth, value, and brightness. These sensations help me decide how to adjust and mix paint to match the colors that surround me. I've had these jaw twitches my whole life and wondered if they were something every human experiences. Recently, I was talking with my husband and came to the realization, “You don't feel the sunset's colors in your jaw too?” That sparked my research into synesthesia and exploring the types I have. Synesthesia can be a helpful tool, but it's not the reason for my success. My art comes from hard work, and I'm certain I could still achieve positive results if I didn't have it. However, I'm grateful that it enhances my understanding of color. Sometimes I wonder if life would be easier without it, as it can be overwhelming. I'd describe it as having an extra set of senses that I can't turn off. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to share more about my relationship with color with you. Thank you for your support as I grow my color matching skills. Take care. 💗 Lisa Cornwell
