This beautiful lace doily was mixed in a bag of random material I got from a thrift store. To whoever made this, (you won’t see this but) thank you for your talent and co-creating this with me. I used fabric stiffener and got the doily soaked and went to work pulling it so it will dry and harden round and flat. I took wooden skewers and soaked them in water, bent and tied them around the hula hoop to dry. My purpose with the wooden skewers is to create the base of the frame. I have had the hula hoops for years and I don’t want to buy anymore, plastics take 20-1000 years to break down in landfills. I am becoming more conscious in my making and I’m experimenting with what works for me and the planet. I am learning. I have more work to do on the frame, I know that, this is as far as I got. #doily #doilyart #fabricart #laceart #creativity #createart #makingart #workinprogress #newproject #lacedoily #lacedoilyart #hoopart
Social media has brought so much joy into my life, including incredible friendships like the one I share with artist Scott Sava. 🎨 Scott has started something magical at his local art store in Nashville—an art trade where artists leave their work to exchange with others. I just had to join the fun! While I didn’t have a piece ready to trade, the kind folks at the shop provided supplies for me to create something on the spot. 🖌️✨ Now I’m left wondering… who will pick my art? Art has the power to bring people together, spark creativity, and spread happiness. Whether you’re a pro or just starting, I encourage you to create something today! Let’s make the world a little brighter, one masterpiece at a time. #SantaJClaus #CreateArt #ArtTrade #SpreadJoy #SocialMediaFriends #ArtistCommunity #ArtInNashville #MakeArtNotWar #CreativeJourney #SupportLocalArtists @Scott Christian Sava
I wanted a round frame for my thrift store found lace and I didnt want to use the hula hoop, so I made my fast version of paper mache (just glue/water, which has always worked well for me) and I smushed it on the hoop, dried overnight and it easily unstuck, wrapped twine around it and I’m pleased. All that is left is attaching the lace to the frame, and I might change the color of the lace, but I don’t know that yet. This was a fun project and I would recommend you to try it if you feel so inspired, take care! #doilyart #fabricart #laceart #creativity #createart #makingart #workinprogress #lacedoilyart #lacedoily #hoopart #frameart #diyframe
After making the paper frame and covering it with twine, I attached it to the lace here. I thought I was going to paint it but I just love it as it is. Thank you to whoever donated this to Gaurdian Angel Thrift in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. I quite literally couldn’t have made this piece without you and I love it. To anyone that got upset that I “ruined” the lace. Go to your thrift store and you’ll find many lace creations dumped there (sadly) that you could ruin too. Have fun, appreciate art and each other! Take care 💕 #diyart #diywallart #laceart #lacedoily #creativity #createart #makingart #art #DIY
