The Exploitation of Incarcerated Firefighters in California We discuss the issue of incarcerated people being forced to work as firefighters in California, often earning low wages while facing barriers to becoming career firefighters after release. We compare the high cost of law enforcement to the exploitation of incarcerated labor. Do you need to find the real perpetrator to prove someone’s innocence? Jee Park, from the Innocence Project New Orleans, explains that while it’s not always required to free someone, identifying the actual perpetrator can be a powerful piece of evidence—especially when pursuing wrongful conviction compensation. Sometimes, proving that your client couldn’t have committed the crime is all it takes. 🎙️ Listen to the full episode of Law Have Mercy! on all platforms—Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube: Fighting for Justice: Jee Park on Wrongful Convictions and Mass Incarceration in Louisiana. 🎙️ #CriminalJustice #fyp #Viral #WrongfulConvictions #JusticeForAll #CriminalJusticeReform #LawHaveMercy #JeePark #ChazRobertsLaw #InnocenceProject #LouisianaJustice #KnowYourRights

Dive into a thought-provoking debate on the complexities of criminal justice reform, specifically focusing on federal death sentences. This video presents a compelling perspective that raises crucial questions about the fairness and implications of the current system. With insightful commentary on the differences between federal and state sentencing, as well as the criteria that lead certain individuals to face death row, it challenges viewers to reconsider what true prison reform should look like. Is it right to commute sentences for lesser offenses while those guilty of heinous crimes receive harsher penalties? The discussion emphasizes the need for a more humane approach to sentencing, advocating for a system that seeks rehabilitation rather than simply retribution. Don't miss this engaging exploration of justice, accountability, and the responsibilities of a society in determining the fate of its citizens. #CriminalJusticeReform #DeathPenalty #FederalSentencing #JusticeSystem #PrisonReform #ControversialOpinions #JusticeForAll #SocialIssues #LegalDebate #TrueCrime

@datelineNBC senior investigative producer @danslepian joins the latest episode of WRONGFUL CONVICTION to explore the story of Eric Glisson and how a system hellbent on finality over justice discards innocent people like Eric and allows real criminals to walk free. In 1997, Eric and five others, who became known in the press as the "Bronx Six," were convicted of the murder of a cab driver. He was sentenced to 25 years to life. Eric never stopped fighting to prove his innocence and served 18 years before finally being released in 2012. #prisonreform #wrongfulconviction #truecrime #criminaljusticereform
Probation & Parole: A System That Can Make or Break Lives Jesse knows both sides of supervision: the supportive supervision consistent with safety and success and the punitive supervision with rules that impede progress and increase the likelihood of incarceration. He’s had officers who genuinely cared—checking in during his lowest moments and helping him get back on track. And he’s had others who tried to violate him over minor, unnecessary issues. His message is clear: When we treat people like people and give them the support they need, they’re far more likely to succeed. It’s time to create a system that lifts people up instead of pushing them down. Let’s make probation and parole about rehabilitation and safety, not just punishment. Join the movement for smarter supervision (Link in bio). #SecondChances #CriminalJusticeReform #Inspiration #ReformAlliance #Leadership #ProbationandParole #SpeakerSeries
Spotlight on Redemption: A Journey from Incarceration to Inspiration We were honored to have Michael "Knot" Palmer at our Speaker Series. His powerful story sheds light on the transformative power of education and personal growth within the criminal justice system. Michael, a British Jamaican from the Boogie Down Bronx, was the first to receive two life-plus-20-years sentences in Washington, D.C., under the CCE Super Kingpin Crack Cocaine Statute. Despite this harsh sentence, Michael's journey is one of remarkable resilience and transformation. While incarcerated, Michael became a paralegal out of necessity and pursued education, enrolling at Newport Business Institute with a major in Business Organization. He's now just 18 credits away from an Associate's Degree. But Michael's growth didn't stop there – he also became a cook, physical trainer, mentor, life coach, and public speaker. Perhaps Michael's most profound transformation came through finding his spiritual self, which he credits with enabling him to become a better person and recognize his greatest asset: the ability to give himself to others. This spiritual awakening led him to apply for the Justice-in-Education (JIE) program at Columbia University, seeking further educational opportunities. Today, Michael is the CEO of Valor Venture, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing mentorship, guidance, empowerment, and support to veterans and formerly incarcerated individuals. His ultimate goal is to be a conduit for these often-overlooked communities, helping them navigate the numerous adversities they face while rebuilding their lives. Join the movement to support second chances. Share this post to spread awareness about the power of education and personal growth in transforming lives. Together, we can build a more compassionate and just society. #SecondChances #CriminalJusticeReform #Inspiration #ReformAlliance #Leadership #ProbationandParole #SpeakerSeries #EducationTransforms

From Prison to Purpose: David Ayala's Inspiring Journey of Transformation We were excited to highlight David Ayala (@davidayala), the Executive Director of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition (FRRC), whose life story is a powerful testament to resilience and advocacy. Raised in Brooklyn by a single Puerto Rican mother, David faced significant challenges early on, entering the criminal justice system at just 12 years old. However, his life took a transformative turn in 2006 when he returned home from federal prison at the age of 33, determined to make a difference. With multiple degrees from the University of Central Florida, including a Master’s in Nonprofit Management, David has dedicated his life to championing justice reform. As the first Chapter President of FRRC, he played a crucial role in advocating for the restoration of voting rights for 1.4 million Floridians with felony convictions through Amendment 4. "Every obstacle is an opportunity for growth," David often reflects, using his experiences to inspire others and drive change within communities. Now, as a leader in criminal justice reform and an advisor at Harvard Law School’s Institute to End Mass Incarceration, David continues to uplift voices and fight for second chances. He balances this vital work with family life alongside his wife Aramis and their two daughters. 👉🏽 Join us in celebrating David’s journey and the importance of second chances. His insight on bipartisanship is a testament to how supervision laws are changed.
