The Dakota 38 were unalived for their role in the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, also known as the Dakota Uprising or Sioux Uprising. The war began after the U.S. broke its promise to provide food and supplies to the Dakota in exchange for their land. The trials were unfair, with no representation for the defendants, sparse evidence, and biased tribunals. The trials were also conducted in a foreign language, and the defendants were unprepared. The men were unalived in front of an estimated 4,000 spectators on a specially constructed scaffold. They were left for 30 minutes. Two men were mistakenly unalived after the unaliving, hence the +2. Most of the men were dug up and used as medical cadavers. Please remember them today and put out food for them.
