I also highly recommend Deaf U, Echo, and Switched at Birth if you’re looking for a TV series to binge!! Video description: Ceres is a white teenager talking to the camera. They have short dark hair with two longer braided sections framing their face and are wearing a black and white hoodie over a black shirt. For each recommendation, they use a greenscreen filter to show a picture of the movie/book. End descriptipn. Transcript: 2025 is almost here guys, and in this next year, I’m challenging each and every one of you to read or watch a piece of media featuring a deaf character. If you need some suggestions, I have a couple. CODA is one of the best and most famous pieces of deaf representation out there. This movie features a hearing girl trying to navigate her love for music despite growing up in an all deaf family. Wonderstruck is my personal favorite. It tells two seemingly disconnected stories of two different deaf kids running away from home. And of course, the Eternals takes plae in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s not deaf focused, but it does feature a deaf superhero. When it comes to books, I highly recommend reading True Biz by Sara Novíc. It tells the stories of three very different people, all taking place at the same deaf school, and its kind of like an introductory to the deaf community. Show Me A Sign tells a little bit of the deaf history of Martha’s Vineyard. And of course, my childhood favorite, El Deafo by Cece Bell, which follows the story of a deaf girl trying to figure out who she is. These are some of the most popular and well known pieces of deaf representation, but there’s so much more out there! Happy New Year! I hope you give some of these a chance. End transcript.
