Do you have a person or residents that refuse hygiene? This is such an essential to learn and it makes dementia care so much easier, and happier, for everyone! It’s one of my favorite things to teach in our trauma-informed Montessori dementia care course! #cna #cnalife #dementiaactivities #alf #dementia #alzheimers #dementiacaregiver #agingparents #montessoridementiacare #memorycare #alzheimerscare #homehealthcare
Part 1 of some guidelines to try when a person seems to have “incoherent speech.” And we put that in quotes because it’s not incoherent to them, it’s that we can’t always understand it. We want to normalize different ways of communicating. These options can help you start to understand what they are trying to tell you. This is part 1 in a series of different options you can try. #cna #cnalife #alf #dementia #alzheimers #alzheimerscaregiver #dementiaawareness #dementiacaregiver #montessori #montessoridementiacare #lewybodydementia #frontotemporaldementia #accessibility #memorycare #alzheimerscare #homehealthcare #dementiaactivities #seniorliving
When we are told to pass off “babbling” language as “just dementia” and there isn’t anything to do about it, we decrease a persons agency, dignity, and ability to communicate. Different communication aids like this are very helpful. There is a process to creating them and using them with someone, which you do need to learn. You can try just printing out some photos, but if it doesn’t work, then that probably means your person needs more of the accessible process to be able to sue them. Which we teach to families in the Care Partners House membership and to Professional carers in our Professionals course. You can join the membership any time and the next professionals course group starts Jan. 20, 2025. #cna #cnalife #alf #dementia #alzheimers #alzheimerscaregiver #dementiaawareness #dementiacaregiver #montessori #montessoridementiacare #lewybodydementia #frontotemporaldementia #accessibility #memorycare #alzheimerscare #homehealthcare #dementiaactivities #seniorliving
What questions do you have for us about dementia care? Leave them in the comments. We love sharing how dementia care can be done with dignity and compassion, while maintaining meaning and purpose for people with dementia. As well as helping carers take care of themselves and balance care of self and care of others. #cna #cnalife #alf #dementia #alzheimers #alzheimerscaregiver #dementiaawareness #dementiacaregiver #montessori #montessoridementiacare #lewybodydementia #frontotemporaldementia #accessibility #memorycare #alzheimerscare #homehealthcare #dementiaactivities #seniorliving
Here is some general information to help understand how to handle when you disagree with a decision your person with dementia has made. This is for informational use only. This is not legal or medical advice. You must work with your own lawyer and doctor to know what is right for your person and their legal right and yours. From the non-legal and non-medical side of care, one thing you can start doing is building trust with them so you know what they want and you can be more of a team going forward. #cna #cnalife #alf #dementia #alzheimers #alzheimerscaregiver #dementiaawareness #dementiacaregiver #montessori #montessoridementiacare #lewybodydementia #frontotemporaldementia #accessibility #memorycare #alzheimerscare #homehealthcare #dementiaactivities #seniorliving
If your person repeats single words or you can’t tell what they are saying, try this for more focused interactions. It helps cue the brain so they are less confused and they have something to talk to you about. I’m not a fan of calling this “babbling” speech because just because we can’t understand what they are saying, it doesn’t mean they are babbling, which is defined as: “the action or fact of talking rapidly and continuously in a foolish, excited, or incomprehensible way.” The words are not coming out as they want them to, but it’s not foolish or incomprehensible. In Montessori care we teach how to understand different forms of speech instead of just passing this off as “that’s just dementia.” #cna #cnalife #alf #dementia #alzheimers #alzheimerscaregiver #dementiaawareness #dementiacaregiver #montessori #montessoridementiacare #lewybodydementia #frontotemporaldementia #accessibility #memorycare #alzheimerscare #homehealthcare #dementiaactivities #seniorliving
