The oddities are always so confusing. I guess though, anything normal is more the oddity then those actions and things that we would consider out of the norm. It is perplexing when she does something like suddenly suck on a finger. Did she think it was a straw? Did she think something was on it? I just don’t know. BUT after the drama of the beginning of this visit, it was so nice to see she was calm and serene… if only for a few minutes. It was such a nice quiet time,but of course I just had to mess it up! LOL It takes literally nothing to change them from serene to agitated. Breaks my heart. Here are my notes and thoughts on our Care Plan Meeting for mom. Sharing over the end of our visit so you can see how precious she was with her cookie! LOL But as for the meeting, I am watching and hoping that the changes I’m seeing, post meeting, will stay. I know it takes me being as involved in it as I can be to make sure things don’t go sideways again. Also very thankful for Hospice being involved. I don’t feel near as alone. Something as simple as a straw, drink lid, etc. can be an obstical for someone with dementia. The scary part is when I’m not there. I know you guys love seeing sweet moments between mom and dad! This post is filled with them! You can get a sense of them and also the laughter/humor between them! This was right after our care plan meeting. So during our quick visit her feet pads were brought and attached to the wheelchair. After our visit the head nurse was upstairs waiting to observe mom eating lunch. It was nice to see changes being made so quickly after our meeting. The whole reason for this visit was to observe mom eating a meal. I wanted this information before our very first Care Plan Meeting the following day. I normally will not go during lunch because I have wanted her to focus on eating and not me. But I did want to see if she was capable of feeding herself. I don’t think I got that answer BUT this visit provided so much of the context for our meeting the next day! Mom has not been in the bed since our meeting so hopefully this situation of eating her meals in bed (and un assisted) is gone. Also it seems there was some confusion about straws. I was told (by staff) at the end of that visit that straws were removed from the memory care ward (but she didn’t know why.) However at the care plan meeting the head nurse seems unaware and straws were brought back. Here we go. (Another triggering video of my sweet Little Momma) THIS was the last visit before my Care Plan meeting. Literally the day before and oh my GOSH it was more than I wanted to know, but at the same time, it gave me all the fighting power I needed for that meeting. I still can’t believe the series of “things” happening all at the same time! My mind went immediately into panic overload. THIS was easily one of the worst visuals I’ve had with mom.
