Spending the week purely to work on an indication where she does NOT paw at the tube with excitement. Looking for that freeze, nose down, a clear indication. She is picking things up in a breeze, I have not decided where we will take it from here, on to what scent or what the end goal is as a whole - we are simply learning as we go and seeing what she thinks! So far I think she will maintain interest as she loves to learn and work. We are beginning with me at her level but this week will transition into a “find it” with me standing away then begin to spread one or multiple tubes out, or hide them completely from her view. Sometmes I use 3-4 pieces, others just one to see how determined she is. This session was post dinner so she was not particularly driven by appetite, yet I am still happy with her enthusiasm. I like to switch it up or occasionally use a piece of liver but of course kibble is cost efficient when you need this large of portion for reward, and it is a fantastic way to deliver at least a portion of dinner in a fun manner! And no nail hate - I did not do any grooming while she went through her last few weeks in heat. I’m often asked if since Eboni isn’t regularly exposed to children if she is still tolerant or “safe”. Well, you tell me, Lol. I do not have kids, this was a close friend’s baby. So, this is not something she frequently experiences (friend’s baby herself was already raised around pups), but here is a testament to good genetics and temperament of a dog who doesn’t have out of control prey drive (which can absolutely be triggered by baby cries), or overall, a dog that doesn’t just run around with no chill the second any energy is heightened. She’s worth a million bucks in my eyes and one of the most stable dogs I have ever worked without being a dead head.. she is still fiery and loves to work with a sane mind! This isn’t even hardly something that can be “taught” to a dog. She is just made this way.
