When I started my weight loss journey, my doctor told me I should get weight loss surgery. This was before weight loss medications were even an option. He looked at me—at the over 400 pounds I carried—and said natural weight loss wasn’t possible for someone like me. He didn’t believe in me, but I did. I chose my own path. I chose to believe in myself when others didn’t. And looking back, I’m so proud of that girl who refused to let anyone else decide what was possible for her life. Last night, I finally saw Wicked, and I was in tears because it hit so close to home. That feeling of being judged before people even know you, of being underestimated, of being told who you are before you even get to decide for yourself—I’ve lived that.
