Penny had a rough start to life and still struggles with that trauma, but she is safe and loved now. That burden is no longer only hers to bear, and I remind her everyday that she is SO brave. I started telling her “you’re so brave” when I first brought her home. When she looked apprehensive or nervous about going into a new room, the lights being turned off for the night, me leaving for a few hours, new people coming to meet her, etc I reminded her that she is so brave. I swear she recognizes the phrase because now when she has her scary moments and hears me say “you’re so brave”, she pushes through and runs into the scary room, comes out from thumping under the bed, hops over to new people to give them a sniff and a nudge with her nose, and runs to me in the dark. Stop dumping rabbits. Domestic rabbits are not the same as wild rabbits and do NOT have the same survival instincts and camouflage. Do your research and be responsible before bringing a living being into your home. Do better. Being uneducated or “not knowing” is not an excuse anymore. Google exists for a reason. This is not a dig at people thinking about adopting a rabbit or who already have one but have questions. If you have questions and genuinely want to and will do better, I’m more than happy to answer them.
