This just might be the healthiest bed that I put in this year, and I’ll attribute it to the great sunny location, the top tier homemade compost, and the consistent irrigation from the grid. This raised was right outside my studio window, which was an absolute delight, as I was able to see my garden while working on my computer. The tomato cages are for sure the best cages I’ve ever used, and even though I got them a little late in the season I still got a ton of mileage out them and can’t wait to put them to full use in the spring. #gardeninspo #gardeninginspiration #raisedbedgarden #raisedbedgardening #gardengear #gardeningessentials
The relationship between composting and gardening is one that I am constantly being wowed by, and while I love looking at a full harvest basket of produce from my garden I am equally delighted to dig my hands down into the soil and see a lovely loamy texture, filled with worms and life. The plants that grew in this raised bed were fed by compost that came the leaves and dead plants of the year prior, and in turn the next round of compost will come from the plants I just pulled out. It’s a beautiful process, and the richer your soil is the healthier your plants will be so if you’re tired of spending big bucks on fertilizer every season I highly recommend you start composting - it will save you big time, bring down your waste output, and give you healthier plants and greater yields. #sustainablegardening #gardening101 #gardeneducation #soilhealth #composting #gardeninspo #gardeninginspiration #permaculture #permaculturegarden
Raise your hand (🙋🏻‍♂️) if you’ve been pronouncing these wrong your whole life (they are Brussels Sprouts not Brussel Sprouts). Correct pronunciation aside I LOVE them, and most people who don’t enjoy them simply haven’t had them cooked correctly (aka me for most of my life). Both the sprouts and the leaves benefit from a light char, and the Maillard browning that occurs unlocks a world of delicious flavor. Harvesting the leaves is a way to extend the life of the plant, and harvest early so whether you’re growing them for the first time or the 50th time I hope you’ll try cooking with the delicious greens! #brusselsprouts #brusselssprouts #gardeningtips #gardeninspiration #gardeninginspiration #gardeningforbeginners #organicgardening #sustainablegardening #gardentoplate #gardentotable
One of my greatest joys as gardener and person is in finding new ways to close the loop. I have a massive ornamental olive tree, and several camellia “trees” in my backyard and whenever a branch falls or dies I dry it out, and use it for cooking things from my garden. After all that’s done I take the ashes and/or biochar and put it in my compost, or directly into my garden, and it all goes back to where it came from. Make no mistake - this is not every meal or every day for me, but celebrating the small wins and success towards having a closed loop in my garden is worth celebrating and something I hope everyone can try to do in their garden. #regenerativegardening #biochar #sustainablegardening #gardeninginspiration #gardeninspiration #livingsoil
